The value of diaries in archives

Diaries give us a unique perspective on anything and everything, from the mundane to the world changing, and they are a valuable historical resource. This talk will look at the idea of diary writing and why people do it, give examples from The Story’s collections, and explain why it is important that we keep collecting them.
About the speaker
From an art background initially, Victoria qualified as an archivist in 2008 after studying at the University of Glasgow. She worked on the Durham at War First World War Centenary project and became well acquainted with many diaries of the Durham Light Infantry Collection. She is also interested in contemporary collecting, looking to ensure today’s stories becomes tomorrow’s historical record.
