Join us and the world famous Band and Bugles of The Rifles, for a spectacular evening of military music, supported by the Band and Bugles of Durham ACF, 68th Durham Light Infantry Society.

Sounding Retreat is a British military tradition, originally used as a form of battlefield communication, when bugles were used to signal the end of the day and the return of patrolling soldiers. The ceremony has evolved into a musical display, and we are delighted to be hosting the Rifles’ Sounding Retreat at The Story this summer.

Entry to the event is free. Visitors will be directed to park at Howlands Park and Ride. Limited seating will be available throughout the evening and light refreshments will be available to purchase. Note that the main building is not open to members of the public.

Please be aware that during the performance there will be some firing of historic weaponry.
