They say a picture paints a thousand words. Artist Hannah Kelly is on a mission to gather pictures drawn by people of all ages from across the county to create her new artwork ‘Travelling Tales’.
Come and draw a picture telling a real or imagined story about where you live, and see it displayed at The Story at the beginning of the February 2025 half-term.
Travelling Tales is an artwork commissioned by Durham County Council as part of its Community of Light programme funded by Arts Council England.

Folktales, myths, and legends of County Durham | Free | No booking in advance required

Learn about the myths and folktales of the county, including the Legend of the Lambton Worm, and craft your own shadow puppet of a particularly ‘aaful wyrm’.
Create your own terrible tales as you explore how legends are born using our archives and archaeology collections.
