Durham County Council Archaeology Section is pleased to announce that today it is going live with over 12000 new records and over 3800 edited records from the Historic Environment Record (HER). This is the culmination of a 5 year project to incorporate data from the National Record of the Historic Environment into the HER. The data was incorporated with partial funding from Historic England, and involved, at various times; 2 temporary staff, 4 different volunteers delivering over 350 hours of their time, as well as over 350 days of permanent staff time. This project means that the HER is now more completely a one stop shop for information about the Historic Environment of County Durham and Darlington.
Nick Boldrini, HER Officer, who oversaw the project said: “This is a great outcome for the section, as it’s the culmination of lots of hard work. The information added will feed into all the management decisions we make in the team every day, as well as providing a wealth of additional information for the public to explore about their local areas.”
