Create Your Own Periscope and Discover the Story of the Seaham Bombardment of 1916

Monday 23 February 2026 | 10:00-12:30 and 13:30-16:00 | The Story Learning Studio | Free | Drop in | No booking required | Suitable for all ages

Join us as we revisit the events of the Seaham Bombardment, which took place 110 years ago on 11 July 1916. Through objects and materials from our archive collections, we will explore the role of the Durham Light Infantry and the people at the time of the bombardment.

As part of the session, you’ll build your own periscope using recycled materials to take home. Discover how periscopes work and why they were such an important tool at the time.

All children must be always accompanied by an adult.
