Join us for a fascinating talk by David Butler on the Battle of Neville’s Cross.

The battle of Neville’s Cross was fought on 17 October 1346 between English and Scottish armies on Crossgate Moor, on the outskirts of the city.   This talk looks at the events, national and international, leading up to the battle, and unfolds the story of the fighting, from the initial manoeuvres to the celebrations of the English victory.

More about David Butler

I worked at the County Record Office from 1979 to 2005, and following my retirement from full-time work, I continued part-time, mainly answering the paid research queries which the Record Office received.   However, when the Record Office was beginning to prepare for the move to The Story it was finally time to stop.   I have led guided walks on local history themes for the County Council since the 1980s and one of the those walks, which I do each year in mid-October, looks at the (probable) site of the battle of Neville’s Cross and traces the story of the battle.
