Roman Inscribed Altar Findspot, Binchester

Finds Spot

Part of a Roman altar was found here in 1891. There were still traces of red paint on the letters carved onto it. It had been put up to Jupiter and the mother goddesses by a soldier called Pomponius Donatus.
