A circular medal, obverse shows left-facing bust of King Edward VII. Reverse shows Britannia, holding flag and laurel crown, soldiers, and ships and has SOUTH AFRICA inscribed around top. Edge is inscribed: ‘6484 PTE W. HIBBERT. DURHAM L.I.’ (Impressed capitals). Has 2 medal clasps: ‘SOUTH AFRICA 1902’ and ‘SOUTH AFRICA 1901’. Ribbon has three equal stripes of green, white and orange.
