17 April 1686 (1) Sir William Halford of Welham, Leicestershire, knight (2) John Tillotson, D.D., Dean of Canterbury; John Fisher of Middle Temple, London, gent. (3) Hon. Robert Cecill, esq., son of Rt. Hon. James, late Earl of Salisbury, deceased; William Forrester of Dotil, Shropshire, esq.; Richard Atkins of Newport Pagnall, Buckinghamshire, esq.; and John Verney of Allexton, Leicestershire, esq. Marriage settlement on marriage of (1) to Hon. Lady Frances, daughter of the late Earl of Salisbury. Land leased and released to (2) upon trusts as follows: (a) Manor of Welham and closes there – Isle, Inlands, Nether, Westfield, Lower Tofts, Upper Tofts, Bricke Close, Paines Close, Nether Smithshill, Farther Smithshill, Longeclose, Stocklands, Cranoe, Great Blackwell, Cleypitts, Home Leyes, Neather Meadow Pature, Twenty Acres, Swanns Close and Wigfalls Close; and the manor of Slawston and land in Glowston, Thorpe Langton and Weston iuxta Welland to use of (1) for life, then Lady Frances, then sons with provisions for daughters; (b) Manor house in Welham and other lands in Welham, plus moieties of manors of Market Harborough and Bowden Magna to use of (1) for life, then sons; (c) Manor of Frisby and all his other lands to use of (1) with provisions for daughters – From: Strathmore Estate, Other Counties and New England, Leicestershire and Rutland (Subject of a Law Case Hilton and others. v Gould and others), 1631-1710
