13 January 1591/2 Award of Thomas Hilton, Esquire, Michaell Constable, Esquire, John Gibson gentleman and Leonarde Degles, gentleman, Commissioners for the partition of the Manor of Swalwell and lands in the parish of Wickham called Axhelles upon the petition of William Shafto of Spen and William Shafto the younger of Wickham against George Lumley and Mathew Ogle in Chancery. The Commissioners divide the manor in moieties between the two parties 25 November 1591 Writ appointing Commissioners, requiring them to carry out the partition and to report on their activities – From:
