Postcard showing the exterior of Bowes church from the north-west – early 20th century – photograph by J. B. Smithson of Wensleydale Studios, Leyburn (Yorkshire); – postmarked Bowes 17 August 1907; – addressed to Miss A. Forster c/o Mrs Moffat, Park Lea, Kendal (Westmorland); – message: ‘This is Bowes church just beneath the belfry is a grave stone of two young people. The young lady died broken hearted on hearing that her lover had been killed & were both buried together.
