20 October 1766 (1) Ralph Smith of Snow Green, gent., administrator of the estate of Robert Smith of Causey, gent., deceased (2) John Gifford of Durham, officer in excise Bargain and sale for a year, part of a lease and release, by (1) to (2) of firstly: 2 messuages in Walker’s Chare, alias Walker’s Gate, Durham, with a stable, formerly used as a brewhouse, on the back of them, occupied by Thomas Hodgson, Thomas Wears and Thomas Birkett and bounded on the south-east by Walkergate; on the north-west by a swine sty, in the possession of Henry Brown, and a piece of waste ground, also to be bargained and sold to (2), on the north-east by the common bakehouse occupied by Rowland Burdon and on the south-west by a messuage belonging to Rowland Burdon, occupied by Robert Watson, by part of a passage leading from Walkergate to the river Wear; by a messuage, occupied by Christopher Airson and Elizabeth Fawcett, also to be bargained and sold to (2) and by the aforesaid piece of waste ground; secondly: several other messuages in Walkergate, occupied by Christopher Airson, Elizabeth Fawcett, Mary Ditchburn, widow and Stephen Lumley the Younger, bounded on the south east by the cellar, coal hole and brewhouse belonging to Rowland Burdon; on the north-west by part of the aforesaid piece of waste ground, by a messuage occupied by William Lister and by a passage leading from the Dyehouse Garth to that messuage and to the one occupied by Mary Ditchburn; on the north-west by a messuage, occupied by Thomas Wears and Thomas Birkett and on the south-west by the Dyehouse Garth; thirdly: 2 other messuages in Walkergate, occupied by Robert Ebdon and Mark Oliver, bounded on the south-east by a messuage, occupied by Bernard Dickinson; on the north-west by a dyehouse belonging to William Archer and by the aforementioned passage leading from the Dyehouse Garth; on the north-east by the aforementioned passage to the river Wear and on the south-west by the Dyehouse Garth; fourthly: a piece of waste ground with several swine sties on it, lying behind the messuages occupied by Thomas Wears, Thomas Birkett, Elizabeth Fawcett and Christopher Airson and bounded on the south-east by the aforementioned messuages, occupied by Ebdon and Oliver; on the north-west by a piece of waste ground belonging to William Archer; on the north-east by the aforementioned stable, formerly used as a brewhouse and on the south-west by the messuage occupied by Richard Lister; fifthly: several words illegible chamber of the messuage occupied by Robert Watson, illegible and leading from the street down to the river Wear in common with the said Rowland Atkinson; sixthly: all other messuages in Walker¿s Chare, belonging to Ralph Smith Consideration: nominal
