Our workshops and activities are all curriculum linked and cover a range of subjects and themes.
Key Stage: Key Stage 2 but can be adapted for older and younger pupils.
Topic: Industrial Revolution, Change and Continuity
Delivery: In school or in house
Pupils are guided through a historical investigation using a fantastic range of primary sources and interpretations, including maps, photographs, firsthand accounts and extracts from local studies reference books.
They work in groups to research a local area and hone their presentation skills by sharing their findings with the class.
The areas are carefully chosen to cover a broad range of industries, from coal mining in Haswell to steelmaking in Consett and locomotive building in Darlington to factories in Newton Aycliffe, that together show the breath of industries and the changes they brought for local communities.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe how the locality they have researched has changed over time
- Understand that what we know of them is pieced together from clues in archives and objects
Skills
- Understand how our knowledge of the past is constructed from a range of sources.
Topics
- A local history study
- A study of an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils’ chronological knowledge beyond 1066
