Equitable access to the story of County Durham.
Our Workshops

We aim to make our workshops accessible and equitable for all groups. If you would like to book a workshop with some tailoring towards the needs of your group – please get in touch to have a chat about specific requirements.
We are also developing a dedicated SEND offer. It is important to us that our content is produced to the highest standard before we deliver them to your classes – so if you would like to work with us to develop and test this offer, contact us at learning@thestorydurham.org
The Story Environment

The Story is a publicly accessible building which hosts weddings, birth and death registry, school groups and other visits. This means it can get busy and loud at times. Our Exhibition space has subdued lighting and noise levels can vary throughout the day. Our quietest times are usually at opening and just before closing,, but we love to welcome enthusiastic talkers. There are multiple opportunities for sensory learning with touchscreen and physical interactives.
We have accessible toilets on the Ground and first floor, including a Changing Places. You do not need a key fob for these. Our first and second floors are accessible by lift, and there are desks with different height levels to suit the needs of users in our Search and Discover space.
